Gelato Business Tips

In Gelato Business, new entrepreneurs have choices to start small e.g. placing gelato kios in mall or they can go big having their own gelato manufacture. A manufacturing unit needs sufficient distribution to break even. That usually means that you have to open 2-4 outlets of some kind, in order to sell sufficient product to break even but more importantly to create sufficient public exposure to encourage other retailers to buy your product.

Do not forget to build the retail outlets into your gelato business plan. If you are a franchisee good way to increase sales is to develop retail franchisees of your own. The ice cream manufacturing machinery for a small manufacturing facility will cost about $40-50,000 including two batch freezers, a pasteurizer, blast freezer, chiller and display freezer. Gelato factories usually use water-cooled, 3 phase machines. They are less expensive and much more efficient than air-cooled but you need a chiller to produce cold cooling water.  Gelato factories, consist of two batch machines, a large blast freezer and a pasteurizer can produce almost a ton of ice cream per day, an astonishing amount. A gelato business that has a small manufacturing unit can operate in a surprisingly small space such as a spare bedroom or garage

Advantages of a  gelato factory:

  • Lower rent than retail sales space
  • Faster production rate
  • Higher output- more than 1-ton per day
  • Ability to service many shops, kiosks, hotels and restaurants
  • Permits quick development of an area beating the competition “to it.”

Disadvantages of gelato factoy

  • Manufacturing costs associated with overhead and salaries
  • Requires more retail outlets to be profitable
  • Requires a marketing plan and distribution system

Cash reserve:

If  you want to see your gelato business succeed, you should have money reserved for promotion. Very gelato businesses fail because of bad ice cream.  They fail because of inadequate promotion.

History of Photo Faking

Almost as soon as the first photographs came out of cameras, people were using them to manipulate images.

Take, for example, the very famous portrait of Abraham Lincoln, standing with one hand on his desk. Analysis in the 20th century showed that his mole was on the wrong side of his face, and further research turned up a picture of North Carolina Congressman John Calhoun in exactly the same pose. Someone in the 1860s had taken Lincoln’s face and pasted it onto Calhoun’s body, and the resulting fake photo was spread all across the Union.

Through the Civil War, photo staging was much more common than photo editing. It was very difficult to get an “action” shot because of the long exposure times, so war photographers would pose their shots.

Later, through the early twentieth century, photo postcards showing monstrous fish, grasshoppers, and crops were very famous, and nearly all of them were made by merging two shots into the same frame. As the Dust Bowl ruined crops, the postcards of apples the size of watermelons and corn cobs as big as fireplace logs showed a very dark humor–almost a sick joke.

Josef Stalin made photo editing famous, as those who fell out of favor simply “ceased to exist.” There are numerous examples of pictures where people standing beside him have simply been painted out and forgotten.

Even magazines and newspapers today are not immune. One magazine over-darkened OJ Simpson’s mug shot for it’s cover, making him appear much darker and more menacing than he was in real life. And a number of photojournalists were caught using Photoshop tools on their photos to either merge two scenes into one or increase the smoke and battle damage far beyond what was really there.

Photo faking goes beyond simply posing a scene, because it’s a blatant attempt to lie to the viewer.

A Friend in Every Port?

One of the nice things about traveling is that every trip offers opportunities to make new friendships or nurture old ones–if you make it a priority and take the time. You could ask an old friend to travel with you or simply engage in conversation with a potential new friend you meet across the aisle on a plane.

You can rekindle an old friendship by making plans to meet someone from your past who lives en route or at your destination (perhaps someone you knew from childhood or college).Or you can take a chance and catch up with someone you only knew virtually.

Every connection starts with one person being brave enough to make a move—to take the initiative and hope the other person will respond in kind. As scary as it might feel at the moment you do it, it usually works.

Last weekend, I was visiting family in Westlake Village, California and took advantage of a serendipitous opportunity to meet Victoria Clayton-Alexander, another writer whom I knew lived just a few blocks away. I invited her to visit me at their home and a few hours later, she arrived with a smile on her face and a box of yummy Italian pastries. We all sat around the kitchen island drinking coffee and the conversation flowed effortlessly. I soon realized that she and I had many more connections than our writing.

High on that experience, a few days later when I got to  a meeting in Phoenix, I emailed another writer I had only known virtually before. Jackie Dishner, a fellow member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, responded enthusiastically and was willing to meet at my hotel. We were soon sitting on lawn chairs drinking iced tea in the warm Arizona sun while we exchanged stories about our work and our lives.

Yes, instead of making these connections, I could have visited another museum, spent more time with my husband, gone shopping, or fallen into the trap of staying on top of my email in my hotel room, but these brief interludes turned out to be amongst the most memorable of my trip—and I have every hope that the friendships will be lasting ones.

Do you have any stories of travel and friendship to share? Have friends enhanced your travel or has travel enhanced your friendships?

The Dangers Of Not Getting Enough Sleep

While we come across information on how we can have a good night’s sleep every now and then, we are seldom aware of how an insufficient sleep can affect our health and well-being.
Because of paper works either from work or school and other household obligations, everyday is like a race against time. Add to it the temptations of the computer and the TV shows airing late at night, and the parties and gimmicks. At the end of the day, all the hours that should have gone to a good night’s sleep go to all of these, slowly robbing your body off a deserving rest and making you feel drowsy the next day. If you are accustomed to this way of life, be warned. All the bad things you do to your body have their own consequences, and they could be more serious than you thought.
I. The Social And Economic Costs
While there are health risks when you get a few hours of sleep each night, we cannot ignore the fact that its dire risks affect the nation’s economy. According to a report from the Institute Pf Medicine, an arm of National Academy of Sciences, 50-70 million Americans have chronic sleep problems, with as many as 30 million suffering from chronic insomnia.
The result? Motor vehicle accidents due to tired rivers cost at least $48 billion a year, while fatigue cost $150 billion each year in lost productivity and mishaps.
The report, entitled. “Sleep Deprivation and Sleep Disorders: An Unmet Public Health Problem”, says that in recent decades, loss of sleep has increased due to TV shows, computers, and longer work days among adults.
For those suffering from insomnia, that means more days off work for you. A study led by Virginia Godet-Cayre at the Health Economics Research in France proves that workers who had difficulty falling asleep missed an average of 5.8 days of work a year, compared to only 2.4 days missed by “good sleepers.” The team tracked down the work histories of 369 workers who had insomnia and 369 workers who were getting the right amount of sleep. The study, published in the February issue of Sleep, says that 50% of the insomniac group had at least a time of absence over a 2-year period, against to 34% of the other group.

II. Teens And Sleep
These days it’s not just the adults who are lacking sleep. The National Sleep Foundation reported that only 20% of adolescents in USA are getting the recommended 9 hours of sleep at night. That figure is alarming, because it shows that millions of them have problems concentrating in classes, are getting late for school, or are sleepy when driving.
III. If You Want To Lose Weight, Don’t Just Focus On Your Diet
Want to know a secret? The road to a good figure is not just eating food in low quantity and exercising on a regular basis; it’s having a proper lifestyle. I’m not a fitness expert, mind you, but health studies are giving more and more evidence supporting a link between how many hours of sleep you get and your tendency to be obese.
A study led by Dr. Steven Heymsfield of Columbia University amd St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York, and James Gangwisch, a Columbia epidemiologist, showed that those who had less that 4 hours of sleep were more likely to be obese by 73%, while those with an average of 5 hours of sleep had 50% greater risk. Those who only had 6 hours had 23% more.
The reason? Blame it on grehlin, a substance that makes people want to eat more food.
If people don’t have the recommended amount of shut-eye, their leptin levels are lowered.
Leptin is a blood protein that suppresses their appetite, and seems to affect how their body had eaten enough.
So don’t think that dieting is the only way for a nice build; include getting sufficient sleep in your regimen from now on.
IV. And More Diseases, Too
If you’re already tired of reading about the dire consequences you will face when you don’t give yourself the right amount of rest, here are a few more for your information.
When your body is deprived of the sleep it needs, your chances of getting coronary heart disease double compared to people who have an adequate amount of sleep.
And if you’re a male, read on. You’d be interested to know that men who are sleep deprived are risking themselves for an erectile dysfunction. That happens when their testosterone levels drop due to a few hours of sleep, making it more difficult to maintain an erection.
For older people aged 53-93, there’s a risk of developing diabetes. That’s what a study co-authored by Dr. Daniel Gottlieb, an associate professor of medicine at Boston University claimed.
Published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the findings concluded that elders who slept fewer than 5 hours were 2.5 times more likely to acquire the sweet disease against those who had 6 hours, who had chances 1.7 times lower.
But don’t think that sleeping too much will solve the problem, though. The study showed that overslept elders – those who had more than 9 hours of sleep – had chances 1.7 times higher.
Lastly, sleeplessness causes an individual to have an impaired spatial learning, such as getting to a new destination. This finding, which appeared on the Journal of Neurophysiology, suggested that during the process of spatial learning, new brain cells are being produced in an area of the brain called Hippocampus. Sleep is important in helping these brain cells survive.
V. Conclusion
We all know that sleep plays a major part in one’s overall well-being, and now that we know exactly what we are likely facing when we have lack of it, where do we go from here?

It seems that more research is needed in the area of sleep medicine, and public awareness must be raised for everyone to understand that, despite all the obligations, late night TV shows and caffeinated drinks, getting sufficient sleep is really, really important for everyone, young or old. And as for you reading this article, I bet you agree.

How to Cope With Food Aversion

Do you find yourself suddenly feeling queasy at the thought of the left over pasta that you could not get enough of the other night? Food aversions are a normal part of pregnancy and the flip side to food cravings. Nearly eighty five percent of all pregnant women suffer from food aversions. Food aversion is when food your normally are able to look at, smell and even taste suddenly send you running in the opposite direction. They appear in the first trimester and usually trigger that fun part of pregnancy we call morning sickness. Some women find that they disappear by the start of their second trimester right around the same time morning sickness disappears. Other women find that their food aversions stay with them their whole pregnancy and a few women find that foods they developed aversions to through out the pregnancy stay with them even after they deliver.

Just like with food cravings, your hormones are more than likely to blame for your food aversions. Some experts believe that just as food cravings are your body’s way of telling you that you need a certain food, food aversions are your body’s way of protecting you from eating anything that can harm your baby. This might be why a lot of women report that they experience aversions to alcohol and coffee. The theory is still under debate though because so many pregnant women are turned off by food that is healthy for them and their babies.

Try not to fight a healthy aversion. Consider it a blessing if the mere thought of your normal morning cup of joe turns your stomach upside down. Cutting back caffeine will be a walk in the park for you. The same goes for cigarette smoke. Many women have said that the first clue they had that they were pregnant was the fact that the smell of smoke sent them running. Others say that their first clue they were pregnant was when they had actually felt sick when thinking about having a glass of wine with dinner.

If you find that you have aversions to healthy food, try to work around it as best as possible. Do not force yourself to eat food that you have aversions too. It is not a pleasant experience; instead try to look for alternatives. Some women find the thought of salad or anything green revolting. If you are one of them, you might be wondering how you are going to get the nutrients and vitamins you need. One alternative is to try and drink some vegetable juice.

While drinking vegetable juice is not the same as eating vegetables it has its benefits when you can’t look at your veggies. You should also try eating different color veggies like peppers or carrots. If it is protein like fish and chicken that make you sick, get your protein in other forms. Cheese, yogurt, eggs and nuts are fantastic protein alternatives. Or you can try and hide your meat in dishes. Stir chicken into a casserole or mix some seafood into a pasta dish. This way you can still get your protein in, and with less of a risk of getting sick.

Just like with morning sickness, do not beat yourself up if you can not eat as healthy as you would like while you are dealing with food aversions. Chances are once you enter your second trimester, they will disappear and you can eat more of a variety of foods.

Dealing with the failure of your career

A lot of people find that their career is not as good as they think it is, and will suddenly get laid off or fired. It’s hard to recover from a job that you have been fired from, especially, if you felt that you were doing well at the company. There are so many reasons why someone will get fired, but then there are things like the market and the economy that will help you to lose your job. You’ll want to consider that your future may have set backs here and there, but it is time for you to take control over your career and that you learn how to deal with your failure through positive reinforcement.

If you hit a set back with your career, then maybe it is time for you to take the hint and take a break. You’ll find that if you simply take a less work load then you’ll be able to recuperate and get over the whole ordeal without       having to give everything up. Sometimes, people realize that it is time to take a step down and take the time as a learn step. If you do end up getting fired, then you’ll need to take a week off. You’ll want to avoid doing anything and everything. Use the week to lay around, feel sorry for yourself, play some games, have fun, and so on. On Monday morning it is time that you bounce yourself up from the couch and back on the job. You’ll want to post your resume online and with several companies that you are familiar with.

You’ll also want to take your time from getting too deep into your career, so that you are able to look at yourself and also look at the things that you wish to accomplish. When you reset your goals, you’ll find that you will be happier, and also you’ll feel more confident in yourself and in your career. You’ll have to learn that there is a time in everyone’s life where they believe that what is happening is amazing, however, sometimes the fast lane can get you no where and that is why it is important that you learn to look past it all.

Sometimes you will need to reevaluate yourself and what it is that you believe in. You’ll find that there are a lot of people who go for one thing because it’s only natural to keep reaching and reaching for more important roles, but then they burn out trying to be someone who they never wanted to be. When you are giving a set back, it’s time that you look at yourself and how you’ve grown and changed. This way you’ll be able to care for yourself and also for those who are around you, while being someone you want to be. A lot of CEOs get to the top by themselves, because they had to lose everything to prove that they are successful. What’s the use of being on top of the world, if you don’t have anyone to share it with? This is the time where you need to think what is important to you, not what is expected of you.

Once you have gotten yourself online with your goals, then you’ll be able to focus on the good things in life. You’ll also want to consider that there are many ways that you’ll be able to focus on your own needs with your career set backs. When you get fired or laid off, you’ll be able to have a lot more time to think things through, and you should go from there.

A glass of milk or one banana equals 100 calories and a slice of whole wheat bread, and ounce of cheese and a half of cup of grapes equal 200 calories. See how much more you are eating than if you decide to eat a donut instead.

Remember that you need at least three servings of protein each day. Protein contains amino acid which is one of the most important building block for your baby’s tissue. Protein is very easy to come by and your options are endless. You can drink 3 glasses of milk, and you can have 2 cups of yogurt along with 3 ounces of cheese.

Next, you need at least four servings of calcium every day. Calcium is going to help grow your baby’s bones and help protect yours. Milk is the best way to get your fill of calcium, but you can also get your fill of calcium from cheeses, yogurt and even ice cream.

Aim for at least three servings of vitamin C. Your body does not store vitamin C so you need a fresh supply of it every day. You can eat fruit or almost any vegetable to get your vitamin C in. You also want to make sure you get three to four servings of green leafy and yellow vegetables and fruits. Most of these veggies and fruits will also count toward your vitamin C intake, so that is double the benefit.

You should get in one to two servings of all other fruit and vegetables that are not known for their vitamin A and C value, but are still good for you all the same. Apples, banana, and onions are just a few that are in this category. Eat six or more servings of whole grains and legumes. These are filled with vitamins E and B and they help you battle constipation. Try eating brown rice, whole wheat breads and even air popped corn to get your servings of whole grains and legumes in.

Perhaps one of the most important nutrients you and your body need is iron. Your body’s demand for iron will never be greater than it is while you are pregnant. You want to make sure you are able to keep up with it. Not enough iron could lead to anemia so you want to make sure you are getting enough iron. If you feel that you are not, talk to your doctor and he might be able to prescribe you a iron supplement.

It is always a good idea to eat well every day. However when you are pregnant it is essential that you eat well every day.
